Guided Tour of the Boterbeurs on National Heritage Day, September 12

The former Butter Exchange at Wijnstraat 158-160 is a national historic monument dating from 1841, designed by city architect G.N. Itz as a butter exchange with an art museum on the upper floor. In 1883, the building was expanded with a wing designed by city architect J.A. van der Kloes, who also designed the water tower now known as Villa Augustus. Many residents of Dordrecht still remember the building as the former library and center for foreign residents. In 2018, the building was repurposed as a residential building with five sustainable lofts.

Program In three short talks, the residents will discuss:

• Arjan de Zeeuw on the building's rich history
• Hendrik Jan Groeneweg, the architect behind the transformation, on the sustainable approach using high-quality bio-based insulation and groundwater heat pumps
• Bert van der Schaar on the 17th-century timepiece and the medieval clock

This will be followed by guided tours of the building in small groups.
